LGBTQI

South Perth Pride is an inclusive football club and are a mix of players from different backgrounds, races, ages, abilities and sexualities. Although most in the club identify as gay, there are many players who identify as bisexual or straight. Sexuality is not an obstacle when being part of our club.

Our aim is to help get members of the LGBTQI+ community back into football and try to remove the stigma sounding this game and team sports in general.

Phillip Griffiths moved to Perth from Melbourne and wanted to meet other likeminded football lovers in the gay community but noticed a lack of soccer in the gay teams that already present around Perth, so he decided to start up this inclusive team. South Perth and some players reached out wanting to collaborate in helping grow our club and help the community, offering equipment,  facilities and the already broad inclusive environment they’ve manage to foster.

Thats when the Tuesday night social kick about started with dinner and drinks following after. Players who’ve never played before now owning their own boots and look forward to the incredibly positive environment we’ve manage to create.

We aim to have a weekend team competing on a Sunday and hopefully take some players from Perth to compete in the Justin Fashanu and Julie Murry cup (Cup competition previously only between the Sydney and Melbourne Gay teams) and the Gay Football world championships in Sydney in 2022!!
